浰源不仅历史悠久，而且山川秀丽。据史料记载490多年前，浰头（浰源）于明正德元年（公元1505年）就爆发了浰头池仲容农民起义，义军劫富济贫，威振朝野，于正德十二年（公元1518年）春，池仲容义军被官府镇压失败后，王守仁奏请朝廷始设和平县治。

浰源四面群山环抱，峰峦叠嶂，东起五花毓秀，南面双嶂瞭望，西临风吹蝴蝶，北连胜景小武当。

镇内最高的山峰数九连山主峰“风吹蝴蝶”，海拔1272米，山高林密，郁郁葱葱，峰峦起伏，怪山奇石，千姿百态，数不胜数。
